An Inside Look at the World’s Largest Pet Expo

As April approaches, WPA is looking forward to another year of America’s Family Pet Expo, the world’s largest pet and pet products expo. Launched in 1981, this long-running show gathers pet enthusiasts for three days of family fun—all honoring the health and well-being of our furry, four-legged, finned and feathered friends.

One of a wide variety of industry-leading pet community shows curated by World Pet Association (WPA), AFPE—the organization’s longest running consumer-facing show—has earned a beloved reputation among pet lovers of all ages.

An Expo Begins

Launched in 1981 as the American Pet Show, the popular event now known as AFPE began with the purpose of promoting responsible pet care and pet ownership. With its initial focus on education, AFPE has grown over the past three-plus decades into one of the year’s most anticipated events, drawing millions of pet families in search of the latest products, information, adoptable pets and animal-related entertainment.

Event Highlights

With more than 1,000 animals onsite—dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, goats, horses, sheep, llamas, pigs, turtles and so many more—AFPE truly has something for animal lovers of all kinds. Over three jam-packed days, attendees are treated to exciting competitions, demonstrations and stage shows; breed clubs looking to educate the public on their dogs, informational Q&A sessions with animal experts, veterinarians, breeders, trainers and hobbyists; adoptable animals looking for forever families; and a comprehensive showcase of pet products and services.

A Legacy of Leadership

Through AFPE, WPA continues its longstanding legacy of advocating for the health and happiness of pets and for the strength and growth of the pet industry. All of WPA’s annual events continue to offer pet companies opportunities to build brand awareness and loyalty, obtain valuable market research and connect with the entire community of fellow professionals and consumers alike. AFPE is no exception.
